TRINIDAD

Trinidad! Land of pirates, explorers and Robinson Crusoe in history—an island dedicated mostly to industry today. There are a handful of beautiful beaches, and the dining is fine. But tourism is more the role of sister island Tobago. Just seven miles off the coast of Venezuela, Trinidad is considered to be an extension of South America, rather than part of the Caribbean.

Port of Spain, Trinidad

Beach in Trinidad

For those in Trinidad on business, with an inside track on where to go, the island does offer some spectacular experiences. 37 miles by 50, Trinidad’s northern half features a mountainous terrain reaching over 3000 feet, with various pocket beaches nestled in.

Industrial Coastline

The southern half of the coastline is dominated by oil and gas processing and shipping. TPT's Jim Zura’s recent trip was for Jacaranda Productions of London, and British Gas, which has major facilities on the island.
Port of Spain

Port of Spain is the capital of Trinidad.

Fortress

The proverbial antique fortress and cannon

Upside Down Hilton

The "Upside Down Hilton"-- had the look and feel of a scene from a 1960's Bond flick!

And a wonderful crew dinner on the last night.
