ACTIVE RUNWAY SHOOT

Imagine standing on the active runway at JFK Airport as 747s approach and touch down right behind you!  TPT's Jim Zura and the crew from Travelview International did exactly that, for three consecutive days, shooting for a major international airline.

"We needed some dramatic shots of landings and takeoffs," said Producer Jim Zura.  "We had to go through the Port Authority to get into close proximity.  We piled into the official's crew-cab, and off we went, down the tarmac and across runways.  We drove right up to the end of the active runway.  I asked him how close we could get.  He said, 'you can get right there on the runway, if ya want!'"

"I was concerned about  the wind backwash.  He chuckled 'well, it might mess up your hair, but I don't think it'll blow you over.'  It was an incredible rush.  I could see the pilots and   co-pilots bearing these huge flying beast right down at me.  Then in the last few seconds, they pull up the nose and glide in for a landing. They're supposed to touch down about one-third of the way down the runway.  Fortunately that day, none of them came in short!"
