Nothing like a trip to Alaska in the dead of winter for a true reprieve from a February in Houston that seemed more like June. Texas Production Team’s Jim Zura joined the London-based Jacaranda Productions crew on the excursion for British Petroleum that began with shoots in Houston and Carthage, Texas; then on to Anchorage, Seward, Portage, Girdwood and Hope, Alaska |

Well, it sure looked like Alaska, with towering frozen mountains, snow-covered landscapes and roads. But the balmy temperatures (ranging from 18 to 34F) and warm sunshine made for a pleasant shoot. |

However, on the final evening, the 88-mile drive from Hope to Anchorage on two- lane mountain roads at night with periodic blizzard conditions finally provided Jim with a true Alaskan experience. “My British colleagues offered to take a turn at the wheel, but since they’re known to drive on the wrong side of the road, I decided to brave it out!” |

Houston, eagerly awaiting the next cold front so he can wear
the stylish Alaska parka he bought.

The Kenai River continues to rush through the mountains despite the sub-freezing climate. Lakes and mountains are in deep-freeze, and a remote campground lodge beckons with hot coffee and a fireplace. |
