Chasing "Doodlebuggers" through Mississippi,
Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and California. No, it wasn't a
"pest-control" video. "Doodlebuggers" is the nickname for those
who work in the trenches of the Seismic Industry. A series of training videos for the International Association of Geophysical Contractors had TPT's Jim Zura and his brother Jack, of Footnote Productions, traversing all sorts of extreme environments. |
| It's all about the energy and products we use every day,
whenever we cook, drive our cars, use anything that require transportation (which
virtually everything), and any product of petroleum derivative. 3-D
Seismic is the revolutionary state-of-the-art technology that has
exponentially increased the accuracy in mapping out the subsurface of the earth, where
pockets of oil and gas await transformation into fuels and plastic products. For reasons best explained by geophysicists, a good deal of these resources exist under deserts, swamps, mountains, jungles and seas. Thus, those responsible for charting these subsurfaces must deal with challenging environmental circumstances. |

| "To properly train people who work onsite in these difficult conditions, we had to go to where the action really is," noted Director of Photography Jim Zura. "It was a very unique and enlightening experience, venturing into areas and circumstances that a relatively few people get to see. I enjoy ruggedness, but at the same time, glad I don't have to report to these outposts as a matter of daily course!" |
