Just five days before she was to enter college,19 year old Emily Conner mistakenly dove into shallow water, resulting in paralysis from the chest down.  Jim Zura and Gloria Tenenbown worked together to produce a 9-minute documentary to tell the story of Emily's mission to improve research and development in treating spinal cord injuries.
With some of the world's top minds and facilities working virtually across the street from each other in the Texas Medical Center, it occurred to Emily that more progress could be made if they joined forces and shared resources, instead of working independently toward this common goal.

The result was Mission Connect, a consortium of the top researchers from Texas A&M, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston,  the U.T. Health Science Center, and Baylor College of Medicine.  Emily raised over a million dollars in donations to advance this effort, which became a project of The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research.

Former President Bush delivered a personal message about Emily's successful efforts.

Thanks to Emily's efforts and energy, the chance to recover from these injuries may be much closer to reality.
